Congo army drone strike kills M23 rebel spokesperson as fighting intensifies

A drone strike by the Congolese army killed Willy Ngoma, a spokesperson for the M23 rebel group, in eastern Congo. The M23 group, which the Congolese government says is backed by Rwanda, also claimed responsibility for a drone attack on a Congo airport.

Fighting has intensified in the remote eastern part of the country, complicating U.S. mediation efforts. Separately, South Africa announced it will withdraw its forces from a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Congo.
