UN officials describe horrific violence and mass displacement in Sudan

United Nations officials are reporting a dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan, with more than 88,000 people displaced in the Kordofan region due to escalating violence. The UN human rights chief described the country as a scene of 'horror and hell,' and a UN team that entered the city of El Fasher after a paramilitary massacre found it 'like a ghost town.'

Separately, the International Criminal Court prosecutor told the UN Security Council that atrocities are being repeated 'town by town' in Sudan. In a related development, a Saudi fund has provided $10 million to the UN to supply Sudan with drinking water.
