Trump administration reviews funding for Democratic states and agencies amid shutdown threat

The Trump administration is taking several actions related to federal funding. It has ordered a review of federal funding in more than a dozen states that lean Democratic, and President Trump has again threatened to cut funding for so-called sanctuary cities, though courts have previously blocked similar efforts.

At the same time, a separate fight over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is threatening a partial government shutdown. Some Senate Democrats are rebelling against their own leadership's funding package, increasing the odds of a shutdown. The House has already passed a DHS funding bill that Democrats opposed over its provisions for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
