IMF chief visits Ukraine to discuss a major new loan program

The head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, traveled to Kyiv for her first visit since 2023. The purpose of the trip was to discuss the terms for a new $8.1 billion loan program to support Ukraine's economy.

Georgieva expects the IMF's board to meet in the coming weeks to approve the funding, which is described as a critical survival loan for the country.
