European Union faces criticism over Ukraine policy and membership decisions

The European Union is facing criticism from multiple directions regarding its policies. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the EU and British leadership of obstructing a peace deal for Ukraine. Separately, a former Ukrainian foreign minister suggested that the prospect of EU membership could help compensate Ukraine for its losses in the conflict.

At the same time, an EU member state has rejected a proposal to provide more funding for Ukraine. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also criticized the EU's approach to Türkiye's long-standing bid to join the bloc.
