China investigates Japanese chemical imports used in chipmaking

China has started an anti-dumping investigation into a chemical called dichlorosilane that is imported from Japan. This material is a key ingredient used in the production of semiconductors, or computer chips.

The investigation took effect immediately. Separately, the car company Honda said it is extending a temporary shutdown of its factories in China because of a shortage of semiconductors.
