International reactions to Bangladesh's election and new government

The United States and other international figures have been reacting to Bangladesh's recent election. The U.S. congratulated the country on the election and also congratulated the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on what it called a 'historic' victory, while the BNP itself is claiming it won the election.

Separately, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio said the U.S. wants to work with Bangladesh's new government. President Donald Trump wrote to the new Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, seeking cooperation on defense matters. The head of India's Congress party also congratulated Rahman.
