French prosecutors seek five-year election ban for Marine Le Pen

French prosecutors have requested a five-year ban from holding public office for far-right leader Marine Le Pen. The request came during an appeal trial related to the alleged misuse of European Parliament funds by her party, the National Rally (formerly the National Front).

A court will deliver its final ruling on July 7. The potential ban directly threatens Le Pen's ability to run in the 2027 French presidential election, where polls suggest many of her party's supporters now prefer her protégé, Jordan Bardella.
