Indian politician Ajit Pawar dies in a plane crash in Maharashtra

Ajit Pawar, a veteran politician and Deputy Chief Minister of the Indian state of Maharashtra, was killed in a plane crash. The aircraft, which also carried the pilot, split on impact and caught fire.

The pilot, Captain Sumit Kapoor, was reportedly not originally scheduled to fly that day. The state government has announced three days of official mourning, during which all government offices will remain closed.
