Alberta premier demands more power over judges as Conservative MPs defect to Carney

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is pushing for the federal government to give her province more control over selecting judges. She has called on Prime Minister Mark Carney to grant Alberta a greater say in judicial appointments.

Separately, Carney's Liberal government is gaining ground in parliament. A third Conservative member of parliament has left their party to join Carney's Liberals, moving the government closer to holding a majority.
