Southeast Asia faces a series of natural disasters and accidents

Several countries in Southeast Asia are dealing with major accidents and natural disasters. In Thailand, a construction crane collapsed onto a moving passenger train, killing at least 32 people and injuring dozens more. This follows another fatal crane collapse in the country days earlier.

Separately, a deadly landslide in Indonesia has killed at least 49 people, with search efforts for dozens more missing hampered by heavy rain. In the Philippines, a ferry sank, killing at least 15 people with 28 missing, and a landfill collapse has killed at least 8 people with dozens more missing.

Other regional news includes Indonesia seeking $284 million in damages from mining firms linked to floods, Vietnam increasing surveillance for the Nipah virus, and Sri Lanka ratifying an international labor convention on workplace violence.
