Nigeria's main opposition party faces internal challenges and debates its role

The People's Democratic Party (PDP), a major Nigerian opposition party, is dealing with internal unity and its purpose. A party chieftain said the PDP will work to safeguard Nigeria's democracy ahead of the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, a former presidential candidate criticized Nigerian politics in general, saying it suffers from a lack of parties with clear ideologies.

Separately, a group within the PDP, including its Board of Trustees and many state chairmen, declared support for a figure named Turaki. They dismissed a court ruling from Ibadan that was apparently against him.
