BJP faces local political challenges and gains a key post in Mumbai

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was involved in several political events across India. In Mumbai, the party's candidate Ritu Tawde filed nomination to become the city's mayor, a post held by the Shiv Sena for 25 years.

In other states, a BJP lawmaker in Karnataka was arrested for allegedly taking a bribe. In Jammu and Kashmir, BJP members walked out of the assembly when Omar Abdullah entered. The party also skipped a civic poll race in one Telangana city but won in another.
