Domestic

Greece deployed frigates, F-16 fighter jets, and a warship described as the pride of its fleet to Cyprus. In response to rising security concerns, Cyprus banned drone flights and initiated a re-evaluation of its public shelters. A planned mission by a British Royal Navy destroyer to Cyprus was delayed due to maintenance work.

International

Iranian-made drones and missiles targeted a British military base in Cyprus and an Italian base in Erbil, Iraq, causing limited damage. The UK defence minister confirmed the missile launches toward Cyprus, and Cyprus President Christodoulides stated the island was not a target. In response, France and Italy opened talks with Iran regarding safety in the Strait of Hormuz, and European nations are planning enhanced maritime protection operations.

Italy is withdrawing its troops from the Erbil base following what its officials called a deliberate drone attack, while also reducing staffing at its diplomatic posts in Baghdad and Erbil. The Kurdistan regional government expressed solidarity with Italy. Separately, the United States withdrew aircraft from Spain after the Spanish government stated its bases could not be used for attacks against Iran, a position Spain reaffirmed.
